CHICAGO — Jeremy Bird, Founding Partner at 270 Strategies and former National Field Director for President Obama’s 2012 campaign, talked all things 2016 on Australia Broadcasting Corporation’s “Planet America” special with Chas Licciardello and the ABC's John Barron.
Bird on Grassroots Organizing
“We built a program of team leaders, thousands of them, all across the country who came together on Election Day at 4 or 5 in the morning, got up and ran staging locations from their garages at the very local level. They did that and volunteers came into those locations because they had built relationships with their neighbors and they had built a relationship with the campaign.”
Bird on Clinton
“You look at the polls now and she’s very strong in Iowa, she’s very strong in South Carolina and in early states and Nevada and she’s back on top in New Hampshire but there is a long way to go and they haven’t really taken anything for granted. You can see the kind of operation they’re building and the people they’re putting on the ground, that’s really going to benefit her in the general election. To have a strong operation in Iowa where they built strong relationships a year plus before the general election is actually really going to help her. I think it’s been good that she’s had a competitive primary and I think it’ll continue to see her campaign not take anything for granted.”
“I think Hillary Clinton is the strongest candidate on the Democratic side, I think she will win. I think she’ll run a very strong campaign. I think she’s going to be a very formidable general election candidate, obviously her experience is sort of second to none.”
